Dodge/Burn and Filters

It was really cool this week to explore with the dodge and burn features. I used the photo I took of the lake and the background and I made the sky lighter and made the concrete and dock darker. I also used the dodge tool to create a thin layer of fog. Do you guys see a thin layer of fog in the distance? It took a while to try to get it just right because it had to be the perfect amount of light.

I explored the filters a lot last week and being able to add a bunch of filters was cool. The first one I added softglow, gaussian blur and messed around the with the hue brightness and saturation(Gimp). i really bundled a bunch of filters into this one and thought it was really cool looking. The second one I just added the old photo filter to make it look old, I thought that was pretty simple and cool.

(The first photo in each set is the original followed by the edited version of that same image)

  1. Nice work on these! I like it when I see that someone is pushing the filters to see what will happen. Even if you don't like it, it doesn't matter, because you can always start again. Keep on working like this and you will be a pro in no time.

  2. I really like the last two because they are more dramatically different than the first. I do think you did a great job with the first one, but my eye is more attracted to the last two. I love how you enhanced the saturation and the soft glow filter. I think this is awesome. I also love the last photo with the old filter. I think it really keeps the photo's focus at the whole picture rather than just the mirror or the tree.

  3. Nice job!!! I really like the photo of the lake and how you made changes. I believe it is a fern - love the first photo a bunch - not sure you had to really do much to it. I do like the black and white with the pine tree in the side view mirror. Great job!
